Zoom user guide

Download Zoom.

If you are a first time Zoom user, download Zoom on your computer or mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, in advance.

Change your name.

Zoom lets you change your name before each meeting you enter. By default this is the name on your account, however, you can change it before you join a meeting. When you use a link to join a meeting on Zoom, it will automatically bypass the option to change your name and directly have you join the meeting.

Join the meeting.

You can join a meeting by clicking the buttons on the Schedule page for  “Room A” and “Room B”. A password will be shared 2 days before the conference.

Check your audio settings.

On most devices, you can join computer/device audio by selecting “Join Audio”, “Join with Computer Audio”, or “Audio” to access the audio settings.

Please keep your microphone muted when you’re not talking. This will help reduce background noise and increase the quality of sound for the presenter. To do this, select the “Mute Microphone” icon.

Check your video settings.

Please keep your camera on and show your face during the conference to increase the engagement of all participants and speakers. To do this, select the “Camera” icon.

Use a virtual background.

You can upload your own images or videos as a virtual background, or use nothing and just blur the background instead.

If you would like to enable the Virtual Background feature before the meeting, you can select the icon usually found on the top right corner of the Zoom window and go to “Setting”. Navigate to the “Background & Filters” and add the image by clicking on the ⊕ (plus) icon.

If you would like to change the Virtual Background during the meeting, click on the ˄ (upward arrow) icon beside “Start Video” and add your the image by clicking on the ⊕ (plus) icon.

Share your reactions.

You can use zoom reactions on the “Reactions” button to show you’re being attentive, in the form of emoji and icons.

You can tap the “Raise Hand” icon to join voting or before asking questions on the mic.

You may also make good use of the chat room by typing your thoughts and questions in as well.

Leave the meeting.

Select “End” or “Leave Meeting” if the session has ended or you need to step away.
