Title: Would you leave your future(s) in the hands of someone else’s?

Theme: The problem of externalising our agency to an unproblematised ‘Other’

If we cannot fully predict the future, what skills may we need to make sense of the unknown? Imagination, resilience, playfulness? In my practice, we call such skills under the scope of ‘futures literacy’, the capacity to understand why and how humans anticipate. Making sense and living through the unknown requires for us to first take a step back. For what reasons do I use the future? For whom? What processes do I mobilize? And what schemes do I reproduce? The future, or the multiple futures that have yet to come to existence, is a great opportunity to imagine, but also a vast field of reproduction of many problematic behaviors. We will focus together on these patterns, and more particularly, on our tendency to leave the production and implementation of our futures in the hands of someone else. Our aim will be to work together on reclaiming our sense of agency.
