Open spaces: Designing a culture of sharing in creative online environments

Creative education needs ways to explore ideas dynamically that encourage learning communities’ development in a studio environment. In the standard (design) studio model, in-person (IP) learning fosters a culture of sharing (CoS) as students and faculty engage in a multi-direction dialog via desk crits, class pinups, and final reviews. The OL studio, however, doesn’t share this opportunity. The class and pedagogy are designed to maintain visual and curricular consistency, hindering dynamic conversations and tangential explorations that IP students enjoy. In turn, this creates an inequitable learning experience. This discussion workshop will explore ways online creative pedagogy might be redesigned to encourage CoSs.
