Decoding Brutalism in UI Design: Trend or Timeless? Exploring its Pedagogical Significance, Appeal and Application.

September 26 @ 14:45 - 15:15

Today’s UI design landscape is rich in ever-evolving visual sensibilities and considerations for emerging designers. Amidst the backdrop of visual appropriation juxtaposed against established design norms propagated by Big Tech, young designers are discovering an unexpected sense of solace and assurance in Brutalism. But what makes Brutalism so appealing, and why are so many digital interfaces embracing this design aesthetic? This case study will unravel the principles, techniques, and underlying historical contexts of Brutalism as seen in UI design, while also providing a platform to categorize this design aesthetic in its various forms. Its potential, as well as its impact on contemporary UI
design, will be explored beyond the surface trends and into the honest precepts that shape digital adoption and application by a new generation of design students.
