Submission guidelines

For DEL 2022, we are considering submissions for the formats of Paper Presentation ("paper") or Panel Discussion ("panel"). We encourage submissions that prompt conversation, participation and collaboration among participants

Additionally, we invite proposals for Unconference Sessions, which will focus on a conversational approach towards emerging issues, ideas and/or situations.

Please be reminded that DEL 2022 will be operated entirely online, thus all contributions need to be deliverable in digital formats.

Paper Presentation

Length: 30 minutes (typically 10 minutes for the presenter‘s main points; 20 minutes audience engagement)

At DEL, we understand the term ‘paper’ to incorporate broad contexts and impacts for creative practice, teaching practice, and research. A paper presentation typically includes research methodologies, objectives, outcomes, implications, and/or impacts.

Case Study

Length: 30 minutes (typically 10 minutes for the presenter’s main points; 20 minutes audience engagement)

We understand case study sessions to include creative practice, teaching practice, student work and perspectives, and research regarding a particular context, group, or experience. Examples of what you may want to present include a teaching case study, policy initiatives and frameworks, or the documentation of a creative practice project.

Panel Discussion

Length: 60 minutes

Panels should have a minimum of two presenters who e.g. may dialogically introduce a group project or controversially engage about a particular topic.

Unconference Session

Length: 30 minutes (typically 5 minutes for introduction/outline of the questions to be discussed; 25 minutes for audience engagement)

Unconference sessions may be used to start a conversation about a concurrent or emerging idea, concept, or theme. There are no specific preparation requirements for unconference sessions other than having a few framing questions (or goals) to kick off the conversation, and inform attendees selecting between sessions.

Unconference sessions are highly flexible, more disruptive, spontaneous, concurrent. They may cover a wide range of interests - including recent challenges/development - or build on conversations started in other sessions, continue thought-provoking dialogue and debate.

Please note that submitting a proposal for an Unconference Session does not guarantee you will facilitate the session on your own. DEL may connect you with proposals addressing similar questions.

Publication Opportunity

DEL presenters have the opportunity to submit a paper based on their DEL contribution to the open access, peer reviewed Spark Journal, typically only available for UAL staff and Students.

Spark: UAL Creative Teaching and Learning Journal is an online journal for university teachers, researchers and students with a focus on exploring all aspects of teaching and learning in arts, design and communication.

Please note that Spark Journal will conduct its own peer-review and there is no guarantee for your submission to be accepted, even if accepted for DEL 2022.
